ANTIQUE James Dixon & Sons SILVER PLATED DOUBLE ENDED BONBON BISCUIT BOX CUT GLASS CENTREPIECE 11″ x 11″ x 5… This Heavy, large, English antique footed serving piece for biscuits or bonbons is a stunning addition to any collection. Made by James Dixon & Co during the Edwardian era, this silver plate cut glass centerpiece box features a beautiful hobnail pattern. It has an interesting way to operate the doors or lids being opened. The central silver bar under the top handle is lifted and the two chains are connected to the lids which then open!! The pressed glass shape is then cut with Stourbridge style expertise with graduated hexagonal window/hobnail cut. On the top of the glass are step cut and herringbone cuts. All masterpieces of cutting design. The handle is made of ebony with silver plated fixings and the ends are floral embossed. The elaborate style reminds me of Christopher Dresser which many of the silver smiths of the late 1900’s and early 20th century replicated. I have not seen this design made at an earlier period. Crafted with expert composition, this silver plate, which is floral engraved on the lids with a shield in the centre is a delight to behold. Both ends have an empty cartouche which could be engraved should the owner like. Especially good as a Wedding present or for special occasions. The Silver plate and cut glass material combination is both elegant and durable. This piece is perfect for those who appreciate the finer things in life and is sure to be a conversation starter at any gathering, and looks a superb piece for the coffee table or to bring after dinner delights.. Please see last photo of another I have found for sale.. ! MEASUREMENTS: Height 11″ x length 11″ x 5 1/2 deep. Does not look like it has had much use. The silver plating is in very good condition as are the hinges on the lids. If you need further information please do not hesitate to message me..
