The quintessential art deco tea set. Geometric cubist lines, with just the right touch of Bauhaus influence. The sharp angles offset with sleek curved wooden handles. Modernist simplicity pared with ultra luxe detail, reminiscent of more than a few 1930s ocean liners, particularly CGT’s Normandie. Four pieces (coffee pot, teapot, creamer, sugar) plus a sleek Art Deco tray from another maker (period-correct) that nicely coordinates with the set. This set SHIMMERS, refracting light and reflections with a mirror like finish. A SHOWSTOPPER that commands attention wherever it is displayed. There is a hallmark but we don’t recognize it. The faceted geometric lines on these pieces also resemble sets by Ercuis and Ravinet D’Enfert from the period. And the ultra-stylized perfection places it beside both Maison Desny and some of Gio Ponti’s works. Wear consistent with age and use. Typical scratches, some spots of plating loss and such – as expected for a service of 90+ years vintage. That said, it presents SUPERBLY, as the photos attest. Just did a fresh cursory polish, and it SHINES! The pics truly reflect the mirror like reflection and refractions, created by the sharp faceted details. Some wear commensurate with age and use. But this set was obviously well cared for. The tray (from another maker). Please also check our other listings! In the coming weeks, we will be offering several other prized 1920’s – 1930’s Art Deco pieces, including sculptures by ALEXANDRE OULINE, LUCIEN GIBERT, JEAN DE RONCOURT, MAX LE VERRIER. And PUIFORCAT flatware, goblets a pair of table lamps by Maison Desny. Plus pieces from Revere, Lurelle Guild for Kensington, and Chase, modernist paintings, a suite of cubist portraits / lithographs, African and tribal art, as well as a nice selection of furniture – a Machine Age Norman Bel Geddes for Simmons bedroom set, (dressers, bed, vanity / desk), tables and chairs by Wolfgang Hoffmann and Alfons Bach (Royalchrome, Lloyd). Also, a Ralph Lauren Modern Metropolis end table, a Paul Frankl inspired skyscraper coffee table, and small objects and figurines (Rosenthal, Hertwig Kathutte), as well as a pair of shagreen/ leather screens custom created for the Baccarat Hotel, NYC. We are also in process of posting nearly a dozen men’s designer pieces (sunglasses, leather shoes, boots, sneakers, jackets, duffel bags, luggage and sweaters) from Prada, Bottega Veneta, Hermes, Cartier, Dolce and Gabbana and Guccii – so if interested, please be certain to check back in the coming days. Much vintage luggage and travel pieces from Asprey, Mappin & Webb- including a pair of goatskin parchment (vellum) trunks from the estate of Andre Leon Talley.
