Antique 55-piece 6 person cutlery oak canteen with turkey set and working key
Wonderful full table / dinner service cutlery canteen for 6 persons that includes serving spoons and a turkey set. Housed in a dark-stained oak canteen of an unusual D-shape, that is trimmed with beaded borders and lined with navy blue velvet inside. The pieces have been made by various makers, including Viners, Walker and Hall and Mappin & Webb and date to 1890’s to 1940’s. All items in Old English pattern, except for the coffee spoons, which are a very ornate Victorian set decorated with applied acanthus leaves. The canteen has a working key. All the pieces are silver plated, the knives have ivorine handles. Box – 10.5 x 46 x 32 cm. 6 table knives – 24 cm. 6 table forks – 19 cm. 6 soup spoons – 17 cm. 6 dessert knives – 21 cm. 6 dessert forks – 17.5 cm. 6 dessert spoons – 17.5 cm. 6 teaspoons – 14.5 cm. 6 coffee spoons – 10 cm. Turkey set – 25.5, 31.5 and 35.5 cm. 2 serving spoons – 23 cm. 1 salad spoon – 23.5 cm. 1 salad fork – 23.5 cm. Some wear to silvering commensurate with age and use; small nicks to ivorine handles; the turkey fork back prong is loose; tiny marks to the back of one serving spoon; some scuffing to the exterior of the box.
