George Butler 50 piece canteen of cutlery with rare Pistol & Rattail handles presented in a mahogany. Wooden box (possibly not original) consisting of the following. Rattail design stamped Butler epns A1 England. 2 serving spoons 17.5cm length. 6 soup spoons 17.5cm length. 6 table fork 20.5cm length. 6 starter forks 17.5cm. 6 fish knifes 20cm (these are probably a later addition as there is a slight difference in design, see photos). 6 fish forks 18cm as above. Pistol design stamped George Butler & Co. Table knife 24cm length the handles have been well used and do show signs of wear. Starter knife 21cm length but are good heavy pieces that polish up nicely. George Butler & Co were prominent makers of high quality table cutlery. Acquiring the Art mark in 1861. The cutlery is presented in good vintage. Condition commensurate with age & wear. Pistol shaped knives became popular in the 18th century whilst the Rattail. Pattern dates from the early 17th Century.
