24 Piece Mother of Pearl Silver Plate Fruit , Dessert Knife & Fork Set – Boxed. A very nice set of Fruit/Dessert Knives and Forks, the Knives decorated to one side with a butterfly, bird and a vine, the forks decorated with leaves. The knives are marked with what I believe reads “MW&S” “EP”. The MW&S is in Old English and is slightly obscured by the engraving, I believe it may relate to Mark Willis & Son and if so will date between 1886 and 1918 when the firm ceased. They are cased in a mahogany box (without key) nicely lined with ruffled material to the base & lid. I have included a number of photos and these probably describe the item better than I can and form part of the description. Condition: There are significant marks marks, scratches and plate peeling on the backs of 6 of the knives as shown in one of the photos. The other pieces have the odd spot of plate loss. The mother of pearl appears in good order, there may be a couple of broken tips on the ends of the forks which does not surprise me as some of the forks are quite tight fitting in the box. All handles appear secure. The box is structurally sound with the odd mark and scratch from use and storage, there is also part of a bowl rim mark to the top. There is no key and the lock is untested. Internally it is in very good order. Some of the stringing to the edge will come away if you pull it and may want to be restuck. Please also see photos. Size: Box 30.3cm by 20.5cm by 6cm high. Knives 20.6cm, Forks 17cm. Total weight 2.1kg. I will try to answer questions as soon as possible, but this will normally be in the evening.
